The Bvlgari Piccolissimo caliber BVL 100 is a time only micro movements made for Bulgari’s new line of Secret/Serpent ladies watches. This movement was launched as a novelty during LVMH Watch Week 2022. The BVL100 is so tiny that it only weighs about 1.3 grams with a white gold balance wheel that measures only 5.4mm in diameter.
Winding and Time Setting:
Because this caliber was created for the Serpenti series which features a case in the shape of a snake’s head, it wouldn’t look fitting to have a crown sticking out of the side. Therefore, watches with the Bvlgari BVL 100 movement do not have a crown and stem to wind and set the time.
These crownless timepieces are wound with a key wound system similar to come vintage pocket watches. However, these calibers do not need a key to wind them by hand, thanks to a winding unit design built into the case of the watch. Located on the caseback of the watch, the winding unit connects to the ratchet wheels, delivering energy directly to the mainspring.
Dial Side View:
In Bvlgari’s own words:
“An absolute icon meets a new in-house caliber. The new Serpenti Misteriosi secret watches welcome Piccolissimo, one of the smallest mechanical movements to date. This true jewel of micro technology is housed inside breathtaking jewelry masterpieces, which perpetuate Bulgari’s unrivaled decorative excellence and spectacular craftsmanship.”
