Pros VS Cons:

Pros:

  • Unlike Miyota calibers like the 2035, the arm that holds the battery cell down on the 1N12 is not near the coil, so there is less chance of damaging the watch during a battery change.
  • Does not require insulator film under the battery cell as on some Swiss quartz movements.
  • Cheap to replace.

Cons:

  • The arm that holds the battery in place is attached to the main plate of the movement. If it snaps off during a battery change (rare) then you may need to find another watch to keep the battery cell in place.
  • Similar movements in this price range offer a longer battery life – although 2 years is still not too bad. Comment below if Miyota is accurate in claiming 2 years.

I used to like Citizen, now I refuse to even look at them! The 1N12 is one of the apparently many low end calibers Miyota/Citizen made over the years. I just threw a nice Skagen with it in the garbage, because it quit after its maybe 3rd or 4th battery change at age 15 or so. I have a small pile of watches, about a dozen with Seiko/TMI/Hattori calibers, some of these are as old as almost 40 years and still tick, and a couple of Casios, also fully functional! Meanwhile only TWO of my Miyota quartz equipped watches (a… Read more »

In my poinion, Miyota’s 2035(and all 2 series movements) are low end movement but they are high quality. ETA’s low-end quartz movements(like G and 8 series) are very low quality, and the most important thing is they can’t be repaired,if they broke down, you can only install a new movement instead of fixing them, so do tmi’s pc series. The 2035 and all 2 series was to be with a metal wheel train movement, but now in the newer version of the movement, they use plastic wheel train(maybe since 2024 spring). So I am looking for vintage Chinese quartz watches produced by the… Read more »
