The Time Æon caliber Naissance d’une Montre 2 is a handmade, inverted manual-wind watch movement with a constant force regulator and large power reserve indicator on the back.
The Naissance d’une Montre 2 is an aesthetically modern timepiece that was handcrafted using traditional watchmaking methods:
“Hand-crafting a watch using historical machines means breaking free from industrial constraints and therefore rediscovering total creative freedom. When adopting this approach, we can no longer talk of a “product”, but rather an authentic piece of work whose soul is truly a reflection of its creators.” –Source
As the second big project of the Time Aeon Foundation, the Naissance d’une Montre 2 was initially announced in 2019 with the final product revealed in 2023.
The unique 1 of 1 timepiece was auctioned at the Geneva Watch Auction XVII on May 13 and 14, 2023. It sold for CHF406,400 (coverts to about $453,550 USD). The proceeds of the auction went to the Time Aeon Foundation, the intention of preserving the art of traditional watchmaking for future generations of watchmakers.
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
The Creators:
This watch and caliber design is a collaboration between Dominique Buser and Cyrano Devanthey for the Time Aeon Foundation. Buser and Devanthey were classmates at École d’Horlogerie de Soleure, and later became colleagues at Urwerk.
The pair was tasked with building the watch in its entirety, with the support of Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei.
The Caseback:
In recognition of the collaboration outlined above, the backside of the movement on the Naissance d’une Montre 2 is signed: Greubel Forsey / Urwerk / Cyrano Devanthey / Dominique Buser.
Also visible from the back of the watch is a large arm power reserve indicator, spanning the bottom of the movement from empty (left) to full (right). Twin barrels can be seen across the middle zone.
Caliber Number:
The Naissance d’une Montre 2 does not appear to have a specific caliber number designation, but since the movement is specific to this piece, the model name becomes the caliber number by default (as per Caliber Corner guidelines). Therefore, this movement would be written as: caliber Naissance d’une Montre 2.
