The Android Galactopus AD551 is a multi-functional digital touchscreen watch with a circuit board movement.
In a video where the brand CEO/designer Wing Liang presents the AD551, he refers to it as the “world’s first digital tourbillon on the wrist”.
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Android? Smartwatch?
While it is a digital touchscreen watch, it is not a smartwatch and does not have any wired or wireless connectivity features apart from connecting the power cable to charge it.
This watch has nothing to do with Android phones or watches. Android has since changed they company name to Aragon.
Despite folks assuming Google made Android change their name to Aragon, it was actually Android (via parent company Oko International), that went after Google for trademark infringement in 2013. It appears there was a settlement, part of which Oko may have sold rights the name to Google.
Time Display:
To display the time when the screen is off, press and hold the button (crown) on the side of the watch.
There are three time display modes available in various colors:
- Digital (with the date and battery)
- Analog (2 hander)
- Tourbillon (analog)
The tourbillon screen is in the design of an Android Virtuoso watch.
These options can be changed by tapping the screen when it is on time display mode.
Other Features/Settings:
The second screen on the Galactopus is a stopwatch. This function also offers a split mode to track multiple laps.
The next screen is a full calendar, followed by alarms.
The settings page (last screen) is where the time & date can be set, as well as the screen brightness, power saving options (turning the screen off), and language settings.
Charging the Galactopus Digital:
The AD551 includes a USB charging station. As of this post, the charger is still available on the Aragon site here. Specs below are from their official description:
“UL listed/ Ceritified, Input: 100-240V 50-60 HZ 11-17VA, Output: 5V==1000mAH”
A full charge should give the watch about 2 days of runtime.
