The Ronda caliber 715 is a common 3 hand Swiss quartz movement. This caliber is part of Ronda’s normtech line of movements.
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Swiss Parts Vs Swiss Made:
According to Ronda, there are two versions of this movement: a Swiss parts version with 1 jewel and nickel plated finish, and a 5 jewel version with gold plated finish. You may see Swiss parts variations listed as being made by Harley Ronda. Also note that some watch parts sellers may list the Swiss made version as 715SM.
Similar Calibers:
There are similar calibers to the 715 including the Ronda 712, 712, and 714. The 714 and 715 both have the date at 3:00. The 712 and 713 are essentially the same, but without the date. The 712 and 714 do not have a central seconds hand. All of these calibers use the same 371 cell battery.
There is also a longer life caliber 715Li that uses a larger CR 2016 battery cell.
Accuracy:
According to official documentation, Ronda claims that the caliber 715 has an expected “Instantaneous Rate” (accuracy) of -10 to +20 seconds per month at normal operating temperatures of 0-50 degrees Celsius (32-122 F).
Hacking Seconds:
This movement has hacking functionality, meaning that the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out to time setting position. Ronda officially calls this:
Stop-second with interruption of motor impulses.
Ronda claims that hacking the movement activates a power saving mechanism that reduces battery consumption by approximately 70%. If you are not going to wear your watch for long periods of time with a battery installed, it is recommended that you pull the crown out to save the battery and reduce unnecessary wear and tear on the movement. Keep in mind that even if you keep the watch hacked, the battery can go bad and begin to leak which may damage the watch.
Stem Removal:
To remove the stem on the caliber 715, make sure the crown is in position 1 (pressed in) and use your tool to press the stem release button located next to the small arrow on the movement.
Hand Fitting Height:
You may see references to calibre 715 with various trailing numbers: 715.0, 715.1, 715.2, 715.3, 715.4, 715.5. The number indicates different hand fitting height position/options, generally to accommodate thickness in dials. This option will mostly be relevant when ordering a raw replacement movement.
For more details and the heights, check page 14 in the tech sheets linked below in the Additional Resources section.
Replacement Prices:
At the time of this post, replacement prices of around $15.95 were found online for the Swiss parts version.
