The Citizen caliber E365 is a solar-powered quartz watch movement. The caliber number comes from the movement’s full-charge running time of 365 days.
This movement was introduced at Watches and Wonders 2023 on March 27, 2023. It is found in the new Eco-Drive 365 line, with watches scheduled to be available in autumn/winter 2023.
In Citizen’s own words:
“Eco-Drive 365 features the Caliber E365, a movement that takes CITIZEN’s proprietary Eco-Drive technology to a new, higher level. Thanks to reduced power consumption and an extended running time, it can keep going for 365 days on a single full charge.” –Source
And this:
“Featuring the new light-powered Eco-Drive movement Caliber E365. Expose it just once to adequate light, and it will run for 365 days even in complete darkness.” –Source
In the fine print at the bottom of the page, it states the following with regards to batteries:
“Eco-Drive is CITIZENʼs proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries. Certified as an Eco Mark product for the first time in the watch industry.”
Eliminating sounds like a strong word, especially since the capacitors/rechargeable batteries in solar-powered watches eventually do need replaced.
