The Alpina caliber AL-220 is basically a Ronda caliber 505, found in some Alpina quartz watches such as the Alpiner Extreme Quartz midsize.
Alpina is transparent about the fact that the AL-220 is a Ronda base, and their site clearly states it on their product pages.
While the Ronda 505 is available in Swiss Made or Swiss Parts, it appears that Alpina is using the Swiss Made variant based on the text on the dial and caseback.
Ronda offers various date positions in the 505, and although most examples of watches with that caliber will have the date at 3:00, watches with the AL-220 have a date at 6:00. Having a different date position isn’t a major customization and simply entails printing a datewheel with the date numbers at a different angle than the original, to match the cutout in the dial – but it’s still a nice tweak from the original.
It is unconfirmed as to whether or not the movements feature any custom branding. At the time of this post, Caliber Corner has not gotten an AL-220 powered watch in-hand to get pictures of the movement. If you have access to a watch with this caliber, please submit an image if possible.
