The A. Schild 1580 (AS1580) is a vintage self-winding, automatic watch movement that was introduced to the market in the 1950s. You will often see this movement rebranded under other names, or simply as AS 1580. The caliber number can be found under the balance wheel.
AS 1580 VS AS 1581:
There is a similar caliber AS 1581 variation that adds a date complication.
About A. Schild:
The “AS” in this caliber number stands for Adolph Schild (sometimes written as ASSA for A. Schild Société Anonyme), a popular ébauche movement producer from the 1890s to the 1970s.
Interesting note: the name is still being used today… to sell what appear to be made in China tourbillon watches.
Watches with this caliber:
Many different watch brands used the AS 1580 to power their timepieces, from small and obscure vintage “microbrands”, to well-known luxury labels. The movement pictured here was found in a vintage Enicar timepiece. If you have a watch with this caliber, please add it to the comments below.
