The NOMOS caliber ξ (Xi) is a German made automatic world timer movement found in the NOMOS Glashutte Zürich Weltzeit model.
As Nomos describes it:
“Travel the world with the push of a button: Hong Kong, Sydney, Caracas and Rio, Alaska and the Azores—this in-house built movement knows what time it is (almost) anywhere. And like everything from NOMOS Glashütte, it’s robust and easy to use. That makes Zürich Weltzeit und Tangomat GMT the perfect travel companions—and 24 watches in one.”
Setting the world time:
To advance the world time to another time zone, press the button located above the crown at 2:00. This action will change the country and move the central hour hand forward by one hour. Use this feature to track time in different places in the world. The small disc on the right of the dial displays 24 hour time at 3:00. This 24 hours disc remains in place while pressing the world time button, because it is used to display your home time.
Xi VS DUW 5201:
The NOMOS DUW 5201 is an update to the calibre Xi. With that said, the Xi caliber has been discontinued. The main difference between the two movements is the evolution to the exclusive NOMOS Swing System escapement.
What does 26 Steine mean?
26 steine means 26 jewels. Steine is the word for “stone” in German – stone aka jewel. NOMOS and this caliber are from Germany, so German is used for the text on the movement. Interesting note: The Xi is marked 26 STEINE, while the the DUW 5201 mentioned above is marked 26 RUBINE. Any guess what rubine means 😉
