These clear plastic watch cases are original cases used by Rolex to ship new watches from the factory to authorized dealers.

How Rolex Ships:

Brand new timepieces are safely packed in these plastic protective cases (referred to as watch coffins by Rolex collectors) along with warranty cards and hang tags, then they shipped to authorized dealers with a secure courier in a large steel container. Most people don’t realize, the green box you get with a new Rolex watch is actually shipped separately from the watch itself.

Unbranded:

The cases are never marked with “Rolex” or a coronet logo, so they are perfect for watches from other brands as well. These cases are guaranteed to come directly from Rolex and have originally been blessed with have a Rolex watch inside. The hard outer shell is marked 4290911 which may be a reference number of some sorts. the inside foam holders are marked 4290912.03 and 4115772-06.

How It Works:

The foam insert helps keep your watch in place. There is a flexible foam strip that lays between the bracelet and the plastic case to prevent any marks from rubbing against the plastic. The hinged door snaps shut. The top and bottom of the case have grooves so that multiple cases can be stacked on top of each other – perfect for keeping a big collection organized.

Note: Some cases have a square hole as pictured, and some are solid. The square hole cases are more common but the solid ones are more desirable. Rolex still uses both, and they seem to be random. We cannot guarantee that you will receive one style over the other, but we will try to make sure all cases you receive are the same style.

Rolex Waste Case:

For many years, these cases were simply thrown out by ADs who received no instruction from Rolex as to what they ought to do with them. Apparently, there was no reuse or recycling program offered. Rolex dealers are typically tough guys in their towns, but Rolex is their boss and they report to them with their tails between their legs, so they wouldn’t risk getting caught by their rep trying to peddle these cases on the Internet. In the trash they went! Everyone went crazy after they found out about Gap’s plastic hanger-gate, but no one realizes the secret wasteful world of Rolex. We are known for reusing and repurposing as much as possible, so we would collect these cases from ADs in our network. It started as a way to save these plastic cases from ending up in landfills. They were perfect for storing our own inventory, then we started using them to ship used watches, but now the demand has gotten out of control (like everything Rolex). At your request, we’re selling the last remaining case we have in suitable condition.

Why the Price Increase?

Two reasons: recently the market has been flooded with non-Rolex boxes. Apparently counterfeiters overseas have seen that we were selling these watch coffins and started to make knockoffs. Now they are selling them in bulk to resellers. They even steal our photos, crop the watermark and tell the resellers they can use them in their listings. Evil!

The second reason is even more significant that the first: Rolex will no longer be using these boxes moving forward. After never being called out about how millions of these plastic and foam boxes are being thrown out by ADs each year, they got ahead of the potential PR problem (unlike the plastic hanger issues that clothing retailers have faced) and switched to cardboard shipping boxes. Therefore, once these authentic (meaning confirmed to have come straight from Rolex) boxes are gone, they are gone for good.

Use Cases:

These cases are great for storing your watches in the safe or bank safety deposit box. They are also excellent for shipping watches in the mail. Another great use is as a travel case, you can safely store your watch in your carry on or briefcase when getting on a plane. Not into shipping or travel, buy one as a piece of Rolex history! This was the method of transporting new watches from the factory to dealers for many years, but not anymore! These cases are collectible relics of the past.

What Other Sellers Say VS Reality:

What Other Sellers Say: “Brand new and not used before!”
Reality: If the cases are genuine from Rolex then they were used at least once. You cannot get these cases from Rolex without them having previously been used to ship a watch from the Rolex factory or Rolex Service Center (RSC).

What Other Sellers Say: “Plastic case for Rolex watch.”
Reality: This design of case can be used for many different brands and models of watches, however, fakes have recently started showing up for sale. Rolex has officially stopped using these cases in most (if not all) markets, so it’s possible that the case factories in China realized this and started selling them. They very well could be the same as the cases used by Rolex in the past, but the only real way to get a genuine case that 100% was used by Rolex is to get a case that was shipped from Rolex to an AD. The cases we have been selling for about a decade are exactly that: cases that were shipped from Rolex to an AD, the watch pulled out and put on display, the cases then put in a box. Long story short, there might be other cases out there listed as being for Rolex watches, but with all of the cases coming from Chinese vendors, you can’t be sure they were blessed by The Crown themselves. The cases for sale here are the real deal, guaranteed to have been once filled with a genuine factory fresh with stickers Rolex timepiece. We’re running out and they are not available from Rolex ADs anymore, so when they are gone they’re gone.

What Other Sellers Say: “Excellent condition.”
Reality: They may very well have some cases in excellent condition, but if you ever purchased these cases from other sellers before, you will know that they show up with barcode stickers on them, broken hinges, broken foam inserts, dented inserts, etc. We double check every case, carefully peel off the stickers and meticulously wipe any sticker residue with GooGone. You won’t find better Rolexified plastic watch boxes.
