From a post on watchuseek by sempervivens:

…so Seiko cal. 6139A was produced from 1969 until 1971 and the switch from Seiko cal. 6139A to Seiko cal. 6139B took place in 1971, which lasted until 1978.

Concerning Seiko cal. 6138, everything probably happened one year later :
production of 6138A started in 1970, the switch to 6138B took place in 1972, and production lasted until 1979.

I have owned a 6139B since 1972. I wore it for 12 years and had it serviced once. I stopped wearing it in 1984 and put it back in the box. About a year ago I pulled it out of the box and took it in to get the pushers unstuck. The watch gains about 3 to 5 seconds a day after not being used at all for 35 years. Amazing little machine.

That’s a cool story. Why were the pushers stuck?

I imagine from non use after all those years. The watch repair shop had to make new little gaskets to replace the dried out gaskets. He showed me the old gaskets and they looked very tiny O rings. The watch works like the day I brought it home. Though it doesn’t look as good as new. The glass crystal has scratches.

Tenias que llevarlo a un buen relojero a hacerle una buena revisión. Lo merece despues de tanto tiempo. Saludos de Ribeira

Exactly my very same experience. I got my 6139 as my 18th birthday present from my father who had just returned from Japan on a business trip. I wore it for about 15 years (got it serviced during that period) and eventually put it in a box and just forgot about it. I found it back a couple of days ago, put it on my wrist and much to my delight it was running and still keeping good time. Much like your watch I found that the pushers are stuck and need to be repaired. I guess next week I… Read more »

I wonder if the pushers are getting stuck in these old watches because of the gaskets melting or something.

Hello

Hoping someone can help with a quick question. Did 6139A come with day ring or just date. I have a 6139-6012 (1972) which I assume came out with 6139B but the movement is gone. I want to get restored but only have a 6139A movement and it has no day ring. Can day ring be added?

Thanks!!

Hi, could anyone give me advice what is the difference between Seiko movement 6139-6000 and 6139A

6139 is the caliber number. 6000 is your watch style number. 6139 and 6139A are the same. The A is just a revision number, if there were any revisions it would go to 6139B. Check other Seiko movements on this site, they talk about it more on other pages.

Thank you Eric for the information. By the way, the winding stem of my 6139 chrono movement is broken, I cannot find its winding stem but I can find a stem from seiko 6309. do you know if winding stems of these 2 movements are interchangeable ?

Hi there, can anyone confirm if the Seiko 6139B (or the 6139A) hacks the time?

Mine seems not to

These are vintage movements. Non-hacking. Your watch is working like it’s supposed to.
