The Ronda caliber 8040.N is a multi-function quartz movement with 13 jewels. It is part of Ronda’s Mastertech line.

Pros and Cons of This Movement:

Pros

  • Decent battery life (as long as you don’t run the chronograph constantly).
  • Cool retrograde day of the week at 12:00
  • Big double digit date at 6:00
  • Takes a common battery

Cons

  • No quickset for the day of the week!
  • Small screws are easy to lose during battery replacement.
  • High cost for movement replacement.

Functions:

According to the Ronda website, the caliber 8040.N features:

  • Repairable metal watch movement
  • Very long battery life
  • Power saving mechanism with pulled out stem: Reduction of consumption approximately 70%
  • Very easy handling by two pushers
  • Big date with quick change

As Ronda mentioned, the big date has a quickset function but the day of the week does not. When setting the day of the week, you will have to put the watch in time setting mode and go all the way around until the day of the week indicator points to the correct day.

How to Change the Battery:

Changing the battery on the Ronda 8040.N isn’t difficult, but you have to be very careful not to lose the 2 tiny screws that hold the battery clamp (battery cover) down. Also, make sure the orange insulator film located below the battery doesn’t fall out. You will need battery cell #395 which you can order here.

  • Once you have the caseback removed, unscrew the two screws and lift up the cover.
  • Put a new battery in with the positive side up (markings on the battery up).
  • Carefully replace the cover, sliding the lip below the movement plate.
  • Replace the 2 screws.

This is a very cool looking movement with the grande date and the retrograde day of the week. I am glad to see that Wing is now using this movement in his Aragon watches. I will have to check those out. I thinkers the Invicta Excursion is a great looking watch. I’m a sucker for the “mirror polished” look and have an Aragon with that high polished look. I believe it is my favorite watch

I agree. While I like Invicta I love Aragons designs,Quality and service. I and many others have been able to reach Wing himself with questions or problems and he does everything he can to make his customer happy. When he was on Evine he was the only watch maker that would tell the people live on TV to make sure to screw the crown down to prevent water damage and then explain the damage it will cause if you don’t. I asked Invicta to do the same but they will not. Invicta has a decent product but wants you to… Read more »

This movement is used in the Ruf Pilot Sport 48mm. Haven’t received mine as of this post but aesthetically it is very similar to the iconic IWC Big Pilot and nearly as beautiful.

Hello everyone. Can anyone help me. I have an invicta tria watch model 19426. The movement is Ronda 8040n with date at 9. The watch is currently not working and movement needs to be changed. I have searched all online stores but they have Ronda 8040n with date at 6. Please help me to find a Ronda 8040n with date at ,9 for my watch

What Invicta did was take the Ronda 8040N and turn it clockwise 1/4 turn. This puts the crown at 6, the power reserve sideways at 3, and the big date stacked vertical at 9. It appears to use a custom datewheel to turn the numbers to line up with the new position. You probably can’t find that anywhere and will have to send it back to Invicta to repair, or find one cheap for parts. You can also just get another 8040N and try to take your datewheel from your broken one and put it on the new movement. It’s… Read more »

First of all thank you so much for responding to my post. Actually I am from india and have bought the watch online from eBay.com. there is no watch maker in my country who can swap the date wheel for me. I tried to swap but after that the date advances from 1 to 9 but after that it does not advance to 10. Again I can manually change the date wheel with stem position at one click, that is with the stem at date adjustment position it works absolutely fine but with stem at 2nd click that is time… Read more »

Sumit, something is stopping it from hitting the 0 number of the second digit. This is odd sounding. Did you say you already got another 8040N and tried to swap the date wheel yourself so that you can use a new 8040N but with the old datewheel? Do you have any pictures of what you’re working on?

Recently bought a ‘L&JR’ (ever heard of that brand?) that runs on a Ronda Cal. 8040.N. The watch is a hoot! Looks like it has a face (a bit skull-like). Up closer, it’s a very architectural, industrial-style design, though, multi-layered. The chronograph has a 1/10 second function between 2 and 3 o’clock and the small seconds sub-dial, at 6 o’clock, shows only 30 seconds with a double-sweep hand of which half disappears behind the upper-half of the dial’s construction…and right below that is the double date-window with silver-grey numerals on a black background (the rest of the dial is also… Read more »

I found this movement in an Invicta 12698 with a twist. The movement is mounted 90 degrees from standard wth the crown is at 6, function pushers are at 5&7, day is at 3, date & seconds are at 9. (chrono minutes past 12 and 1/10 sec past 5)

If you can’t create an environment where you don’t lose your screws then you probably shouldn’t mess with it.
