The ISA caliber 8176/1990 is a quartz movement with a small seconds subdial and a central 24 hour/GMT hand.
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Caliber Number:
In ISA documentation found as far back as 2009, the company referred this caliber as 8176/1990. In later catalogs dated 2018, this caliber was renamed to 8176A.
GMT Type:
This GMT is sort of a caller/traveler hybrid since both the GMT and local time can be independently set. Although, it is important to note that when setting the local time, the minutes hand moves as well.
Swiss Made or Far East?
The movement shown here was found in a Brera Orologi watch that says “Swiss Movement” on the dial, however, the movement itself says FAR EAST ASS’Y.
Similar Calibers:
There is a similar caliber 8176/2050 (also known as 8176B) with the main difference being that the 2050 version does not have an alarm complication.
Replacement Price:
At the time of this post, this movement was found at replacement prices of $36.50 to $44.95 USD.
Note: This movement may not be easy to find since it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.
