Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Crown/Stem Removal:
To remove the crown and stem on the ETA 980.163, look for the arrow pointing to the detent button. Use your tool (tweezers) to carefully press the detent until the stem can be pulled out without much force.
Similar Caliber:
There is a similar ETA caliber 980.163, with the main difference between these two is the distance of the small seconds hand from the center of the dial. The difference in distance is:
- 980.153 – 4.25mm
- 980.163 –Â 6.25mm
All other dimensions are the same.
This difference in distance of the small seconds subdial can allow for a longer case design (lug-to-lug).
Another difference is that the 980.153 has 11 jewels and the 980.163 has 15 jewels. The extra jewels are related to the gear train which moves the seconds hand further away from the center on the 980.163.
Replacement Prices:
At the time of this caliber listing, replacement prices of the ETA caliber 980.163 were found in the range of $22 to $59.95 USD. Note that while this movement cannot be purchased directly from ETA, you can sometimes find watch parts sellers with remaining new old stock movements for sale.
