The Eberhard & Co. caliber EB 140 (EB140) is a handwound mechanical movement that was introduced in 2019.
In Eberhard’s own words:
“The ‘1887 Remontage Manuel’ model was designed to express all the potential of the EB 140 calibre, a movement with exclusive architecture and special technical and structural specifications. The aesthetic aspect also reveals meticulous care over details, particularly the bridge for the balance wheel and the large bridge for the gear trains, distinguished by the traditional finishing with a ‘circular wave’ pattern. The screws are blued and the incisions are gilded.” –Source
In-House?
Although you may find countless watch blog articles referring to the calibre EB 140 as an “in-house” movement, it appears to be more of an exclusive manufacture caliber produced by Sellita AMT.
In this 2024 interview with Eberhard and Sellita representatives, the connection between the two companies is clarified:
“. . . when we presented our hand-wound movement developed and manufactured by Sellita AMT on our return to La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2019, we were proud to announce that everything came from within a five-kilometer radius. This is the distance between Sellita and Eberhard & Co. And two exclusive calibers, also developed in collaboration with Sellitas Manufacture AMT, are the basis of the new watches that we will present at Watches & Wonders 2024.”
