The CIGA Design Caliber CD-01 is a skeletonized automatic movement found in the brand’s Series X Eye of Horus watch model.
In CIGA Design’s own words:
“The X-shaped Caliber CD-01 self-winding movement, featuring over 150 parts and 24 jewels, combines delicate engraved textures and intricate moving components to create a captivating piece of mechanical art.” –Source
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Base Caliber:
CIGA Design describes this movement as “Original Developed (CIGA CD-01)”, but it appears to be based on a Seagull caliber ST25 (they have used the ST2553JK in previous models) with a skeleton bridge and mainplate design exclusive to CIGA Design. This will be updated if Caliber Corner discovers more information.
Beat Rate/Frequency Inconsistencies:
You may come across some watch bloggers and reviewers quoting the calibre CD-01 as having a 28,800 bph / 4 Hz beat rate, partially because this is information supplied by CIGA Design on some of their product pages (“Machina” (source) and “Gorilla” (source) models).
However, CIGA Design also officially quotes 21,600 bph (3 Hz) for the CD-01 on their “Eye of Horus” product page (source). At least one reviewer actually put a CD-01 powered watch on a timegrapher here and the machine can be seen displaying a 21,600 beat.
If the CD-01 is indeed based on the ST25 as suspected above, that would be the correct beat rate: 21,600 bph (4 Hz). Please post your findings in the comments below…
Caliber Commentary:
Typos and errors are inevitable and excusable, but it is frustrating when the errors come directly from the brand’s marketing materials are repeated across multiple pages and then regurgitated by bloggers and YouTubers. One would think that a watch brand with their own “proprietary”, “original” and “self-developed” caliber would know the correct beat rate – especially when this number is part of the decision making process of some watch buyers. Let’s just say, best case scenario, that the CD-01 beats at 28,800 on some models and 21,600 on others (unlikely)… then a different caliber number must be use to avoid the dreaded caliber confusion.
