The Bulova caliber 2192 is a vintage tuning fork movement introduced in the early 1970s. This movement also known as the Accutron Series 219.
The black cover bridge is signed: BULOVA U.S.A. 2192.10.
Bulova designed the 219 Series with most components in reach without having to remove the movement from the case or take the hands and dial off. In Bulova’s own words:
“Servicing, testing, and replacing components have been simplified. In many instances, individual components can be replaced without disassembling the movement.”
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
Battery Replacement:
These watches originally had mercury battery cells in them. The Bulova part number was #218, a 343 cell rated at 1.35v. You may find that the caseback of your watch reads: “Use only genuine Accutron cell marked 218”, but you won’t be able to find them.
The modern equivalent is a silver oxide cell number 344, rated at 1.55v. Buy batteries here… your purchase supports this site.
You can also find specialized silver oxide batteries on the market rated at 1.35v like the original. ACCUCELL-1 is a replacement for the Bulova #218.
Important: The battery is installed upside-down with the positive (+) side down and the negative (-) towards the cell strap – or, as the caseback reads: “Install with engraved side down in well.”.
Stem Removal:
When removing the crown/stem from the 2192, the crown must be pulled out to time setting mode (position 2 or the middle position).
Disconnect System:
With the crown in time setting mode, the movement will still consume energy. Pulling the crown out two clicks (position 3) will deactivate the electronic circuit to save battery energy during shipping or storage.
Other Service Notes:
- Some parts from the 219X are interchangeable with the Series 218 calibers.
- When assembling the sweep seconds hand, the 3rd wheel jewel needs supported.
- The battery will drain rapidly if the switch spring makes electrical contact with the setting lever.
Similar Calibers:
The 219 series offered various configurations:
- 2190 – Hours, minutes
- 2191 – Hours, minutes, seconds
- 2192 – Hours, minutes, seconds, date
- 2193 – Hours, minutes, seconds, day/date
Note: the 2192 and 2193 are 6.1mm thick, but the two versions without the calendar system are 4.4mm.

No hacking seconds. Dealbreaker. Don’t settle for less than the ST2130 from Seagull.
