The Bulgari caliber BVL 128 is a handwound movement with a small seconds complication and power reserve indicator on the backside.
The BVL 128 was originally introduced in the Octo Finissimo model in 2014, the year of the brand’s 130th anniversary.
At 2.23mm tall, Bulgari refers to the BVL 128 as ultra-thin and extra-thin in various marketing materials. The brand is also on record stating that the thinnest part of the mainplate is only 0.25mm thick (about the same as two strands of hair). Even the mainspring barrel has been slimmed down to under 1.4mm thick.
Dial Side:
In Bulgaris’s own words:
“‘Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail,’ quipped da Vinci. Bulgari met the challenge of perfection in the Octo Finissimo Petite Seconde. This in-house manufactured timepiece represents one of the most extreme feats a master watchmaker can under take, as its extremely miniaturized par ts were created with the “super fine” art of Finissimo.” – Bulgari, 2015 catalog
BVL 128 VS BVL 128SK:
The base versions of the BVL 128 contain 26 jewels. There is a skeletonized version known as BVL 128SK with 28 jewels.
The skeleton caliber is also slightly thicker at 2.35mm compared to 2.23mm. This is likely due to the other big difference between the BVL 128 and BVL 128SK: The base version has a power reserve indicator on the back of the movement, whereas the skeleton version places it on the dial side, just after 9:00.
