The Bell & Ross caliber BR-CAL 321-1 is an automatic watch movement with a date found in the Artline Steel & Gold limited edition, which was introduced on June 19, 2024. It is Swiss made with 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph.
This calibre is not an in-house movement – it is basically a Sellita SW300-1 with a custom rotor and finish.
As Bell & Ross describes it:
“… A precise and high-performing Swiss self-winding movement, the BR- CAL.321-1 calibre, equipped with a reassuring power reserve of 54 hours. A sapphire case back on this 40mm watch, waterproof to 100 metres, reveals the finishes and the full 360° oscillating weight.” (source: Bell & Ross BR 05 Artline Steel & Gold press-release sent out to influencers)
Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:
BR-CAL.321-1 Variations:
Bell & Ross has chosen to use the BR-CAL. 321-1 moniker in a way that could create caliber confusion. For example, the same caliber number is used for the Artline Steel & Gold and Black Ceramic models. The Black Ceramic is a black movement with a black rotor, whereas the Artline Steel/Gold is dark grey movement with a gold tone rotor.
Power Reserve:
The Bell & Ross BR-CAL 321-1 uses Sellita’s optimization barrel to achieve a longer than average power reserve of 54 hours of runtime on a full wind.
Official Bell & Ross words about winding and power reserve:
“When the watch has stopped (crown in position 0): unscrew the crown (turn anticlockwise) to position 1. Wind the movement by turning the crown clockwise. After approximately 71 rotations, the watch is fully wound (the winding mechanism does not have a stop to prevent over- winding). The power reserve is approximately 54 hours when fully wound.” (Source: BR 05 Artline Steel & Gold instruction maual, page 3)
BR-CAL.321-1 VS BR-CAL.321:
Both the BR-321 and BR-321-1 are Sellita SW300-1 movements (which are ETA 2892-A2 clones). The main difference between them is that the -1 on the BR-CAL.321-1 appears to indicate that it is equipped with the optimization barrel (mentioned in the Power Reserve section above), and therefore offers a longer power reserve: ~54 hours for the 321-1 and ~42 hours for the 321.
Artline Steel & Gold – Additional Info:
The Steel/Gold Artline model is a limited edition with only 99 timepieces available worldwide. The seconds hand is made from gold. B&R states that the sunlit brown dial required a special manufacturing technique to obtain the appearance, starting with coating the raw metal dial plate with a tinted brown varnish. The retail price of this piece at the time of launch is $12,800 USD.
