The Shinola Argonite 1069 is assembled in USA with parts manufactured in Switzerland. The movement is based on Ronda’s caliber 1069.

Some of the topics covered in this caliber listing:

Jewel Count:

According to the Ronda website, there are two versions of this movement: a Swiss parts version with 2 jewels and nickel plated finish, and a 6 jewel version with gold plated finish. Interestingly, the Shinola version which is made with Swiss parts, but not Swiss made, has 6 jewels.

Battery Cell:

As Bruce pointed out in the comments below, the chart above shows that this movement can take a 321 watch battery, but the photos of the actual movement show a 364/363 battery. The 321 is a standard battery. The 364 is a high capacity battery. The 321 should get you around 25 months, whereas the 364 can stretch the lifespan out to 34 months. Typically, most brands just put a 321 in the base Ronda 1069 movement, but it appears that Shinola went with the longer lasting 364/363.

Replacement Value:

Replacement prices for the Ronda 1069 base movement were found in the range of $12.95 – $18.95

[…] actually quite a difference. The Aragonite Movement as Shinola calls it is just an upgraded Ronda (Shinola Caliber Argonite 1069 Watch Movement | CaliberCorner.com). Aside from that, these watches are just flat out overpriced. When I look at what Detroit Watch […]

So Detroit Watch Company uses a cheap Miiyota movement that can be repkaced for about the same price, and is less accurate. Big deal. I find interesting this site never identifies ETA mechanical movement replacement movements; as Frederico Talks Watches, they go for about $20 when bought in bulk, too. For that matter, this site never agonizes over how most of the parts in a Swiss watch are made in Asia and thd whole mess slapped together in Switzerland; perfectly legit as long as the company’s cost accohntant sonehow convinces authorities 60% of “the cost” is Swiss. Since Asia’s “cost”… Read more »

Shinola isn’t shit because they have Chinese cases. They are shit because they marketed themselves as a MADE IN USA company at the beginning. They basically lied their way into the market. Maybe you are new to Shinola, but they pissed a lot of people off. I sold my Run Well because of it.

That’s more of a comment on marketing strategy than on the quality of the watch. “Swiss Made” is a dicey proposition, too.

Keying on a smartphone made me garble my comment. I meant, when the site mentions an ETA movement specific to a watch, it doesn’t mention even mechanical ETAs can be bought in bulk for $20 (per Frederico). But somehow, when it’s a Shinola watch, it feels the need to mention the price of the Ronda movement. By the way, Ronda movements go for closer to $100 retail. I detect a lot of anti-Shinola bias, such as making a big deal out of the cases being Chinese. You know a lot of “Swiss Made” watches have Chinese cases and huge amounts… Read more »

Are you sure you don’t mean $200 lol? Most ETA movements are $150.00 – $250.00 give or take.

This guy is a troll, delete his comments. The rotor alone on an ETA 2824 is over $20.00 then he posts links to Alibaba fake watches.

Please.

Listen to Frederico taljs watches about ETA movements. Is Frederico troll? Is he misinformed? Listen to where he brings up the costs of ETA.

The pictures of the 1069 movement clearly show a 364/363 battery but the text claims it uses a 321. Which is it?

I opened it up and it was a 364 which I had on hand (Maxcell SR621SW silver oxide). Wife is very happy now.

BTW, to the know models list, you can add 45mm which is what my wife has.

What’s the movement holder material made of? Some type of black plastic or was it a foam type of material?

I changed the battery in mine by myself and it was a textured black plastic part.

Search for Argonite 1069 – not 1969 and you’ll find them.

I would sure love a Shinola with this movement and few complications, to find out just how good it is.

20 dollar movement in a 1500 dollar watch, that’s how Shinola rolls… what a joke.

I just ordered the 10 year anniversary Runwell with the Argonite 1069 movement. It was only 36% of that price. Limited to 1,000 pieces. I feel like I got a hell of a deal thanks to your comment lmao!
