The Miyota caliber 82S0 (not 8250 or 82SO) is from the 8215/821A family but offers a skeletonized dial design. There is also a gilt (gold tone) version available.

Accuracy:

Miyota claims that the caliber 82S0 offers accuracy of -20 ~ +40 seconds per day. This is measured within 10-60 minutes from a full wind via the crown. To fully wind the movement, turn the crown 40 times. The winding direction of the rotor is counterclockwise.

82S0 vs 82S5/82S7:

The caliber 82S0 has the following layout:

  • Central seconds
  • Open balance (skeletonized) at 7:00

The caliber 82S5 and 82S7 are based on the same movement, but the caliber 82S5 has small seconds instead of central seconds. The caliber 82S7 has small seconds instead of central seconds and also a 24 hour (can also be day/night) indicator at 9:00.

There is also an 82S6, but apparently it is only found in the Bulova A-15 flieger watch (ref: 96A245, released on 1/24/20). Despite this series of movements having an open balance (skeletonized) design, the Bulova has a solid dial with no view into the movement from the front of the watch.

Upgraded Hacking Seconds:

As of mid-2019, Miyota seems to have listened to the desires of the watch community and found a way to integrate a hacking mechanism (stop seconds device) into the 82S0. This means that the seconds hand will stop when the crown is pulled out. We have reached out to Miyota and will update this listing as soon as we have a reply with more information as to when they made this change. Keep in mind that although there are 82S0 movements popping up on the market, the current majority of 82S0 powered watches will be non-hacking. If you watch doesn’t hack, it doesn’t mean it’s broken.

Replacement Prices:

Replacement prices for the cal. 82S0 were found online in the range of $32 to $55 USD.

Bulova 98A187 B7 share the same 82S0. They shift the movement by 1 hour so that the crown is at 2 o’clock and the open heart hit the middle of 6 o’clock.

The Bulovas 96A199 98A187 and 97A136 all have the Miyota 82S0. On the Miyota movement specs page it mentions that the the crown movement for hand winding is clockwise, which should not be confused with the rotor weight which is wound counterclockwise when facing the dial, as specified on this page.

My watch, a Emporio Armani Meccanico (AR600008)uses a modified version of this movement (some metal has been removed to show more of the gears and it has a different rotor.)

I have a Bulova 97A136 with a Miyota 82S0 caliber. I was able to regulate the movement using an iOS app called Watch Tuner Timegrapher. Straight from the factory it had an accuracy of +20s/day. Now it’s +2s after more than 70 days! I know, this is UNBELIEVABLE. And they say you should pay thousands of dollars for a -4s/+6s per day COSC-certified watch. +2s in total in 70 days is 99,99996% accuracy. Unbelievable, I know.

My new Xeric Evergraph (image attached) has this quality 82S0 decorated movement. Wish the case back had full exhibition glass to see it all, but can see the essentials. The front of watch also has some cutaway to view part of movement and balance wheel. Good accuracy movement and decent reserve. Winds very smooth too. The crown is at an odd 8 o’clock position, as the watch design needed the balance wheel visible at top center of watch.

I have a Xeric Trappist-1 Automatic NASA Edition and that comes with this movement. Seems to be quite accurate. I like the watch. The only thing I noticed was the second hand seems to be a bit jumpy. Not quite a buttery smooth and consistent automatic watch second-hand movement. I reached out to Xeric and they told me that was normal because the second hand is on the heavier side in this watch. Timekeeping isn’t affected and you only really notice it if you’re looking close.

Fascinating. The Miyota movements are becoming ubiquitous. These movements are now found in the Timex NAVI XL watches and possibly the Marlin collection. The 9150 are so sought after in many watch companies that opt to include a proven engine as opposed to making a pricey inhouse movement. You can find them in American, European watch houses and some have made their way into a few Russian watches. Way to go Citizen! Hopefully Citizen / Miyota can master developing a Valjoux 7750 like movement to power the Moon watch as oppose to using a quartz powered engine. I like this… Read more »

Recently purchased Bulova Surveyor. Has 82S0 Miyota movement. Gained 3 seconds in 24 hours, next day lost 6. Seems to loose or gain if laid flat or on its edge when not worn. Within spec. As accurate as more expensive movements.
