The Miyota caliber 8218 is an automatic movement found in many microbrand watches. This caliber is part of the Miyota 8000 Series family of movements, specifically in the “Small Hands” category. It features a sweeping small seconds hand at 4:30, as well as a date at 3:00.

Miyota 8218 vs 8245:

The caliber 8218 has a date at 3:00. The caliber 8245 is the same as the 8218 but without a date complication.

Miyota 8218 vs 8219:

Similar to the caliber 8218, there is also a caliber 8219. They are essentially the same with exception to a 24 hour hand on the 2819 at 9:00.

Accuracy Rating:

Miyota states that the caliber 8218 keep accuracy within -20~+40 seconds/day, with a posture difference of under 50 seconds/day.

Power Reserve:

The power reserve or running time when fully wound is about 42 hours. As for getting the full power reserve, Miyota says: The mainspring becomes fully wound by rotating the ratchet wheel 7.5 times or turning the crown 40 times.

Replacement Prices:

At the time of this post, replacement prices for the caliber 8218 were found online in the range of $40-50 USD.

Examples of watches with caliber 8218:

The LACO JU-52, also has this caliber. What I do not know is if the caliber is refined o adjusted by Lack

The Jaco JU-52 does not use this movement. It uses the Laco 18. which is based on a different Miyota movement.

There are several watches which use the Miyota 8219 and remove the main hour hand, making it a 24-hour regulator watch. Some of these are: Sevenfriday Q2/01, CRJ Airspeed, Dufa Aalto, Apollo watches and at least 2 Parnis models.

Wow. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. It does look amazing.
Though I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to live with that small 24 hour dial. How easily can you tell the difference between 20:30 & 21:30?

The Air Blue Papa Praesto uses this movement. Kind of ridiculous; I was just talking to my wife about movements and how they work and she wanted to see one. So I showed her the Papa Praesto’s since I’m wearing it. Anyways, as I’m showing her how an automatic works as opposed to handwinding, I found that this has handwinding, which I did not know after probably a year of owning it. I don’t recall it being advertised as having it or anything. Anyways stupid story, but, as I told her, I like this watch a little bit more knowing… Read more »

I checked here to make sure it was actually hand winding and I wasn’t just mistaken. I’d be happy to snap a pic tomorrow. I have a couple others that I’ll add too. I only discovered this site a few days ago but I’ve probably checked it 5 times a day since just looking up different movements and such. Still can’t believe I didn’t know this was handwinding. Got it off Amazon, and they dont always have the best descriptions.

I believe this is the movement in my Ingersoll 100506. No problems with it and it keeps good time. 🙂
